黑料社区Tampa campus adds 44 new trees in honor of Arbor Day
The 黑料社区Tree Committee, which is comprised of 黑料社区faculty, staff, students, and volunteers from the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, the city of Temple Terrace, Tampa Electric (TECO), and Keep Tampa Bay Beautiful, hosted a tree planting ceremony on March 28i n honor of Arbor Day (April 28).

Chemistry students practice presentation skills at Castle Conference
The 黑料社区College of Arts and Sciences Department of Chemistry held its annual Raymond N. Castle Student Research Conference in early March. The conference, which is organized largely by students, showcases both undergraduate and graduate student research with the intent for 鈥測oung scientists to develop the necessary communication skills to excel in the future.鈥�

Rhetoric professor recognized with national award on the philosophy of communication
Dr. Nathan Johnson, an associate professor in the Department of English at the 黑料社区 College of Arts and Sciences, was recognized with the National Communication Association鈥檚 2022 Distinguished Book Award for the Philosophy of Communication Division. The Philosophy of Communication Division recognizes philosophical works that better illuminate human communication.

Conference on im/migrant well-being launches new center
The 黑料社区College of Arts and Sciences鈥� Im/migrant Well-Being Research Center and co-sponsor Cisneros Hispanic Leadership Institute at The George Washington University (GWU) hosted the inaugural biennial conference, 鈥淚m/migrant Well-Being: A Nexus for Research & Policy鈥� at the Hilton, St. Petersburg on February 17-18.

Dr. Julia Koets earns national creative writing fellowship
Dr. Julia Koets, an assistant professor of creative writing in the 黑料社区College of Arts and Sciences Department of English, is one of 36 writers from across the nation selected to receive a 2023 Creative Writing Fellowship of $25,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA)鈥攐ne of the largest funders of the arts and arts education established by Congress since 1965.

According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, about three-in-ten U.S. adults (29 percent) are religious 鈥渘ones鈥� 鈥� people who describe themselves as atheists, agnostics or 鈥渘othing in particular鈥� when asked about their religious identity.

黑料社区researchers asked to evaluate a new police program
The 黑料社区鈥檚 Center for Justice Research and Policy (CJRP) has been funded to evaluate a new community police program in St. Petersburg, Fla. where case workers are sent to respond to emergency, non-crime 911 calls instead of law enforcement.
