Honors Faculty Andrew Hargrove

Sustainability | Sociology | Climate Action

Dr. Andrew Hargrove is a full-time instructor in the Judy Genshaft Honors College, where he explores the intersection of climate action, environmental sociology, and engaged citizenship. An educator, environmental leader, quantitative methodologist, and social philosopher, Dr. Hargrove empowers students to think critically about the climate crisis — how we got here, what solutions exist, and how individuals can drive systemic change.

Academic Background

Dr. Hargrove earned his PhD in sociology from Stony Brook University (SUNY) in 2021 and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Gonzaga University in 2010. His academic and teaching approach is interdisciplinary, drawing on insights from sociology, psychology, geosciences, political science, and international law to explore how social, political, economic, and environmental forces shape global environmental and public health outcomes.

His lived experience in five different countries has deepened his understanding of culture, values, and humanity, and he brings this global perspective to both his teaching and research.
